Editorial Policy

IR35 Update is an independent publisher covering IR35, the off payroll working rules, employment status and related tax and compliance issues. Our aim is to provide accurate, balanced and accessible information for contractors, freelancers, clients and small businesses.

Independence

We are not owned by, or financially connected to, any accounting firm, umbrella company, legal practice, tax adviser, lobby group or recruitment business.

Editorial decisions are made solely by IR35 Update. We do not accept payment for coverage, rankings, mentions or links inside our articles.

If an article includes sponsorship or a commercial partnership in the future, this will be clearly labelled.

Accuracy

We rely on primary sources wherever possible, including:

  • GOV.UK guidance
  • HMRC manuals and consultations
  • UK legislation (primary and secondary)
  • Tribunal decisions and court judgments
  • Industry research and verified press releases

When including external commentary from experts, we will clearly attribute it. If a correction is needed, we will update the article promptly and note the change where appropriate.

Fairness and balance

IR35 Update aims to present facts neutrally, including areas where HMRC, case law and industry opinion differ. We avoid sensationalism and do not publish unverified claims.

Review cycle

Content is reviewed periodically to keep articles aligned with legislative changes, HMRC updates and relevant case law. Older posts may be updated or rewritten if rules change or new information emerges.
